One of the most remarkable adaptations in the animal kingdom is the ability of certain species to survive extreme temperature fluctuations through a process called cryobiosis. This phenomenon is most famously observed in tardigrades, also known as water bears, which can withstand temperatures as low as -272 degrees Celsius and as high as 150 degrees Celsius. When faced with extreme conditions, tardigrades enter a state of suspended animation, essentially shutting down their metabolism. In this state, they can survive not only extreme temperatures but also desiccation, radiation, and even the vacuum of space.
