After the female lays a single egg, she transfers it to the male, who incubates it by balancing it on his feet and covering it with a flap of skin called a brood pouch. This incredible dedication lasts for about 65 days during the harsh Antarctic winter, where temperatures can plummet to -60 degrees Celsius. During this time, the male penguin does not eat, relying on his fat reserves while protecting the egg from the freezing cold and predators. The male poison dart frog exemplifies this with his unique reproductive strategy. After the female lays her eggs on land, the male fertilizes them and subsequently carries them on his back to a suitable water source, often a bromeliad or other small body of water. This ensures that the tadpoles have a safe environment to develop. Once the tadpoles hatch, the male continues to care for them by transporting them individually to different pools, where they can thrive without competition from other tadpoles.
