One of the most mesmerizing phenomena in science occurs when light passes through water, leading to refraction and the creation of rainbows. When sunlight strikes raindrops, it bends or refracts as it enters the droplet, reflects off the inside surface, and then bends again as it exits. This bending of light causes it to spread out into its constituent colors, creating the beautiful spectrum we see in a rainbow. Interestingly, the angle at which the light exits the raindrop determines the color we see; red light exits at a larger angle than blue light, resulting in the familiar arc of colors. This principle of refraction not only explains natural wonders like rainbows but is also fundamental in optical technologies such as cameras and glasses, which rely on manipulating light to enhance our vision and capture images.
