During the Apollo 14 mission in February 1971, astronaut Alan Shepard famously became the first person to play golf on the Moon. He took a modified six-iron club head, which he attached to the handle of a lunar excavation tool, and hit two golf balls on the Moon's surface. Shepard's aim was not just to showcase his golfing skills but also to demonstrate the effects of the Moon's gravity on the balls, which he claimed would travel much farther than they would on Earth. The low gravity allowed the balls to soar significantly, with one reportedly traveling over 200 yards. This unconventional sporting event highlighted not only human ingenuity but also the spirit of exploration and leisure, even in the most extraordinary circumstances.
